Google has agreed to pay more than $1 billion to resolve claims that it misled users in Apple’s App Store about how to install the company’s Android software.
The settlement, announced Wednesday in New York, includes $500 million to settle a class action lawsuit filed by three California consumers.
The FTC alleges that Google hid information about the risks associated with using the Google Play Store’s Android application from users, even though it was expressly intended for consumers.
In addition to the $500m settlement, the company has agreed not to engage in any new deceptive conduct and to disclose any relevant information.
The settlement includes an option for Apple to pay an additional $250 million.
